MONTREAL, Canada, February 11, 2008: The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) announces the appointment of Claudia Black to the position of Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. Ms. Black had served as the interim CEO since September 2007.
Ms. Black joined the WFH in 1996 and in 1999 was named Director of Programs. Under her direction the Programs department has grown from a staff of one to nine, and WFH programs now reach out to 97 countries worldwide. Ms. Black helped develop and implement the national program planning model used by the WFH in all of its national hemophilia care development programs. She also operationalized the WFH’s flagship program, the Global Alliance for Progress (GAP), which was launched in 2003 and has been very successful. In 2006, she assumed the additional role of Deputy Executive Director at which time she took on the management of the WFH Medical Advisory Board and multidisciplinary committees.
Ms. Black has more than 20 years experience in the field of international development. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Queen’s University, in Kingston, Ontario, and a graduate degree in management from the University of Ottawa.
“Ms. Black brings a wealth of experience and long-standing involvement with the bleeding disorders community to the position of CEO,” said Mark Skinner, WFH President. “This appointment will serve both to consolidate the many significant achievements of WFH in recent times and to enable a more robust advance toward our ultimate strategic goal of Treatment for All.”
