Areas of specialty: General hemophilia care; orthopedic surgery; nursing; physiotherapy; dental; laboratory diagnosis (not genetics); psychology; social work. Rheumatology, transfusion transmitted infections, genetic counselling.

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING PROGRAM

Clinical activities: Twice weekly review clinics for patients with bleeding disorders (patients with acute problems seen daily); fortnightly review clinics for patients with thrombosis (patients with acute problems seen daily); inpatient management; more than 700 patients with bleeding disorders registered at centre.

Laboratory activities/research: Diagnostic services to support the centre; collaborative clinical and diagnostic research with multiple other agencies.

Multidisciplinary activities/research: Physiotherapy (falls and balance); psychosocial aspects of genetic counselling and testing.

Additional information: The Ronald Sawers Haemophilia Centre trains one or two fellows annually (concurrently). Training general takes place March to September, although this is dependent on centre commitments. The centre has engaged in international training experiences with Malaysia, China, and the Philippines.
