DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING PROGRAM
Clinical activities: The clinic see 100 severe hemophila patients. It is staffed by three adult hematologists, three pediatric hematologists, and a hemophilia nurse, with an additional eight clinical and laboratory staff members.We expertise for all areas in hemophilia, VWD, other rare bleeding disorders, genetic thrombophilia, oral anticoagulation, and severe acquired coagulation disorders, with particular focus on prophylaxis and inhibitors. Adult and pediatric care are located in the same facilities. The coagulation laboratory is located with the clinical facilities.
Laboratory activities/research: We have available all modern assays for diagnosis and check up of patients with disorders of thrombosis and hemostasis. The research focus is on inhibitors, both clinical studies and molecular biology and biochemistry, prophylaxis, and molecular genetics of hemophilia.
Multidisciplinary activities/research: Orthopedic, physiotherapy, nursing (especially regarding knowledge of disease and coping), and dental.
Additional information: Former WFH Twinning with Lithuanian centre in mid-1990s. We have run an international hemophilia course for the past three years, which will continue. The centre can train two fellows annually. June to August is not a good period because of summer vacations.
DESCRIPTION OF IHTC FACILITIES
Location: Southern Sweden
Climate: Maritime, but with large seasonal variations. Light summers and dark winters. Variable weather throughout the seasons.
Accommodation (residence, meals, etc...): Close to/in hospital area. Restaurant at hospital can provide meals during work hours.
Transportation: 20 minutes by train from Copenhagen airport in Denmark.
