WFH appoints John Bournas as new CEO/Executive Director

The World Federation of Hemophilia is pleased to announce the appointment of John Bournas as CEO/Executive Director. Mr Bournas brings over fifteen years of senior managerial experience in the healthcare and not-for-profit sectors and international experience as a diplomat. Read more here.

Gene therapy trial for hemophilia B shows
promising results

The first unequivocal evidence of success in gene therapy for hemophilia B was published online Saturday in the New England Journal of Medicine. Six patients with severe hemophilia B responded to injections of a normal factor IX gene. Read more here.


WFH 2012 World Congress: Submit your abstracts by January 15, 2012!

The WFH 2012 World Congress Program Committee is welcoming the submission of abstracts for free paper or poster presentations. Please register your abstract online by January 15, 2012. Late-breaking abstract submissions will also be accepted until January 15. Remember to sign up or renew your WFH membership today and save (up to €55) on registration fees.


WFH Advocacy in Action workshop provides strategies to advocate with the government

The fourth Advocacy in Action workshop was held in Barcelona, Spain, from 2-4 December 2011. Thirteen participants came from the Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe to work on “Multiplying voices: using partnerships and alliances to advocate with the government.”


HemoAction Games now also available in Spanish and French!

Children around the world can now learn about hemophilia in the language they know best: play! The WFH has recently launched the HemoAction games, available online in English, French, and Spanish. More about the games here.
