World Hemophilia Day 2009 – A Global Celebration
Africa and Eastern Mediterranean

Cameroon
National media reported on the Hemophilia Association of Cameroon (L'Association des Hémophiles du Cameroon) hemophilia awareness campaign. Through this campaign, the patient organization distributed information materials to health centres. A hospital seminar for patients and health professionals examined the pathology and complications of hemophilia.

Iran
The Iranian Hemophilia Society (IHS) celebrations included a balloon release accompanied by military band music and a lively play by children with hemophilia acting the roles of the different healthcare professionals who make up the comprehensive care team. In addition, a film was shown about the comprehensive services available at the Iranian Comprehensive Hemophilia Care Centre.

Kuwait
Kuwait Hemophilia Group, a newly established hemophilia support group, arranged two well-attended meetings to explain the symptoms of hemophilia and how to deal with the disorder in everyday life.  

Oman
The Oman Inherited Bleeding Disorder Programme organized an event to mark World Hemophilia Day that included people with hemophilia, their families, and healthcare professionals.  Presentations on hemophilia care were given, covering such topics as home care and hemophilia clinics.

Pakistan
Celebrations by the Hemophilia Patients Welfare Society included a workshop and seminar with leading medical experts at the Husaini Haemophilia Treatment Centre.

Sudan
A celebration and concert staged by the Sudanese Association of Haemophilia was attended by a ministry of health official who promised to support free treatment for hemophilia patients.

Syria
A packed program of music, dancing, games, competitions, and poster painting generated significant media coverage of a special children’s day held by the Syrian Hemophilia Society in the Happy Land theme park.

 



Tunisia

Participants from across the country attended a day of high profile events and performances organized by the Hemophilia Association of Tunisia (Association Tunisienne des Hémophiles). The association draped banners in front of the ministry of health campaign and arranged radio and magazine interviews.
