DESCRIPTION OF IHTC FACILITIES

Location: Houston, Texas in the Texas Medical Center Complex

Climate: Warm, hot and humid. Temperatures average 18-30 degrees Celsius in the summer and 10-20 degrees Celsius in the fall and winter.

Accommodation: Lodgings are available nearby

Language: English and many of our staff members speak Spanish

 DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING PROGRAM

Clinical activities: Our centre has a wealth of experience in pediatric and adult patients, with a total of more than 800 patients: more than 300 have Hemophilia A, more than 100 have Hemophilia B, 150 have Thrombophilia, 160 have Von Willebrand disease and more than 110 have other rare bleeding disorders. There are multiple clinics throughout the week. Our staff consists of four hematologists; three nurses; two social workers; one physical therapist; five research nurses/ associates; 1.75 pharmacists; one geneticist; and one data manager. Once a week, patients with hemophilia and other bleeding/clotting disorders attend the comprehensive clinic.

Laboratory activities/research: Includes full lab with PFA and other diagnostic equipment. Staff supports research.

Multidisciplinary activities/research: As the coordinating center for the Great Plains Region (total of 17 centres located in the Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa), we collaborate on multiple projects within these States and other treatment centers and patient organizations in other States and countries as well.

The multidisciplinary team with over 80 years of combined expertise care is available at our center to support the comprehensive care model.
