Location: The National Blood Centre in Malaysia is situated along Jalan Tun Razak, one of the premier roads in Kuala Lumpur.

Climate: The country is generally warm throughout the year with temperatures ranging from 21°to 32° Celsius. Malaysia has two distinct seasons. The dry season occurs during the south-west monsoon from May and September. The northeast monsoon brings the rainy season to the country during mid-November till March.

Accommodations: The National Blood Centre will assist in arranging accommodation with reasonable rates for Doctors, Nurses or Medical Laboratory Technologists who has been awarded with IHTC Fellowship.

Clinical activities: The National Blood Centre serves as a national centre coordinating the planning and development of the transfusion service in the country as well as a regional centre for Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding region, providing its blood supply and other related services.

One of its main functions is providing hemophilia care. It has a hemophilia daycare centre, where patients come for treatment. All patients are treated with factor concentrate. Approximately 100 cases are seen per week. The National Blood Centre is also the national referral centre where the national registry for hemophilia and other related disorders is kept.

As a regional blood centre, the facility collects, processes and tests all donated blood. Blood components are prepared in accordance with the principles of good manufacturing practice.

Laboratory activities/research: The National Blood Centre also manage the Contract fractionation activities for the whole country whereby plasma is sent for further processing to factor VIII and IX concentrates, intravenous immunoglobulin, and albumin. The other laboratory services include haematology,immunohaematology, HLA typing, and microbiology for transfusion transmitted diseases. The facility also houses the National Cord Blood Bank.

Multidisciplinary activities/research: Comprehensive haemophilia treatment is provided together with various departments in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. This ensure Haemophilia patients have easy access to medical, surgical, dental, orthopedic, as well as physiotherapy services. Surgeries are also conducted in Hospital Kuala Lumpur where patients are admitted when necessary.
